You Asked, We Answered! LUCVS Conference Weekend Schedule
Dear friends and students of all things Victorian,
Whether you are planning to attend the second LUCVS day conference or not (REGISTER HERE), we have several Victorian events where you can discuss literature and meet some awesome and talented people in the Chicago area! See below for details and links for conference info and signing up!
On October 26th, Thursday, 4-6pm, LUCVS and the V21 collective invite Chicago-area Victorianists and conference attendees and affiliates to a happy hour at the Hopleaf Bar (5148 N. Clarke St). Apparently, they have the best craft beer available in the city on tap, or so I've been told.
On October 27th, Friday, 1-2pm, a Reading Group will meet at Loyola Hall, 2nd floor from 1-2pm to discuss the recent work of conference keynote speaker Caroline Levine entitled Forms: Whole, Rhythm, Hierarchy, Network (2015).
Following the Reading Group, at 2pm, the Special Collections Open House begins in Cudahy Library Room 217 (2nd floor). Kathy Young, Special Collections Archivist, will be presenting Victorian works in the LUC's Michalak Collection at the day conference, but this is a great chance to find out more about what she does.
Following the Special Collections Open House, dinner at Rogers Park's Heartland Cafe (7000 N. Glenview Ave) with Dr. Boos is scheduled for 6pm.
On October 28th, the 2017 LUCVS day conference "Aesthetics and Form in Victorian Art, Literature, and Culture" begins with a light breakfast at 8:30am at the Information Commons on Lake Shore Campus, 4th floor. The morning plenary speaker is Florence S. Boos (U Iowa) and the keynote speaker is Caroline Levine (Cornell U). Food and periodic refreshments will be provided. Sign up to attend here and peruse the conference program here!
Following the conference, dinner with Dr. Boos and Dr. Levine will take place at Uncommon Ground (1401 W Devon Ave) at 7pm.
